How playing competitive sports taught me how to “Win” in Business AND LIFE
and inspired the title of my book, “Playing for Keeps”
Growing up, I was the jock who played a lot of sports, which gave me invaluable life and business skills with a “Winning” attitude. To help others, I share how an “I Can” attitude can carry you over the finish line in my book, “Playing for Keeps – How a 21st century businesswoman beat the boys!”
By playing competitive sports (tennis, volleyball and more) at an early age, I took these skills into the boardroom later, and found that sports and business are not that different. They are both a game. There are winners and losers. Strategy is everything.
Working in a primarily male industry (insurance brokerage), using an “I Can” attitude made me think about the game versus the demographics.
If I was passionate about closing a deal or really doing anything in life, I never thought “I Can’t”. Instead, I would picture “Winning” in my mind. This visualization method made me unstoppable, and can do the same for you.
It was sports that made me fearless in a sales career, and helped me become financially independent at age 38, and retire early at age 43.
And in sync with the Summer Olympics 2021, we encourage you to adopt a “Winning” “I Can” attitude about whatever you want in your life. From being voted “Best Athlete” in middle school to majoring in Physical Education in college, sports was a major influence on my career success and life.
Remember, “If you can see it, you can WIN it.” – Therese Allison, “Playing for Keeps“
THE “I CAN” ATTITUDE MAKES ME FEEL UNSTOPPABLE.
What gives you the confidence that you can achieve your goals?
